Weekend Update

Sounds from our living room:

“YEEEES! YESSSSSSS! (pause) WHAT THE FUCKING WHAT?!”

Yep, Matt’s watching the Arsenal/Chelsea match.

I also just got up to refill my coffee, on the way back in gouged my left thigh on the corner of our guest room bed, spilled the coffee on my chair and rug in pain, and might have made some weird shouty noises myself.

This is a typical Saturday ‘round here. Our neighbors must love us. Between that our new late-night obsession with Rock Band, it’s a miracle we haven’t been evicted.

Rock Band

They even had me doing the singing part on Friday night. I NEVER sing, because I’m so awful, and I did it and had a blast. This is a testament to the lure of Rock Band.

My sister Carrie and her husband (she got married in October, and “husband” still sounds weird to me – I guess that’s the curse of the relentlessly single commitment-phobe type) got two new West Highland White Terrier Puppies. She asked me if she could write a letter from them to me for my blog, and I said yes. I’m a sucker for puppies. Even though they make me sneeze.

Dear Aunt Jamie,

We don’t know who you are, but we hear you live really far away. We hope it’s not as far as Mommy and Daddy’s house to that last place we were at. It was really far away, so we slept in the car the whole time. We hope you are as nice as our Aunt Mollie. She lets us sleep on her and then she played with us. That was a lot of fun.

(Picard) Aunt Jamie, I got up and down the back stairs all by myself yesterday. Riker can’t do that. He sits at the bottom and cries until Mommy comes and gets him. I like playing with Grandpa. His hair tastes good. But, Ginny thinks I run funny. She makes fun of me. That’s okay because I showed her by chewing leaves off her plants. I tried to tell Daddy that I didn’t like the tree skirt and I was trying to put it away, but now he put it back and I can’t get to the tree anymore because of some big boxes. And Mommy, I’ve got her wrapped around my paw. If I jump up on her leg, she’ll pick me up, play with me, and cuddle. I like when she sings to me, it sounds funny.

(Riker) You know this playing that everyone wants me to do is just so exhausting. Why doesn’t everyone understand that I just like to take naps? Everyone thinks it’s really cute to put my on my back like I’m a human baby. I don’t care as long as I can sleep. I just wish Mommy and Daddy wouldn’t let Picard push me around. She can be so mean sometimes and she won’t stop play fighting if I yelp. We got this really cool white stuff in the backyard this weekend. It tasted so good and Daddy ran around in it with me. I wish he was home to do that more often.

Well, Aunt Jamie, we hear that you are coming to visit us at the end of the month and we can’t wait. Please bring us lots of toys. We heard we might make you sick and we are sorry. We still hope that you can come visit and play with us. Please bring Matt too, we think that his fingers would be really tasty because of all the Guitar Hero we hear he plays.

We love you, Aunt Jamie,

Riker and Picard

When you work at a homeless shelter, the holidays are in-freaking-sane. I’m neck-deep in all of that, with the addition of the usual holiday social stuff – work parties, rugby parties, party parties. Rock band.

Matt’s bugging me to get ready for brunch and xmas shopping, so I have to head soon. We fly to PA a week from today. My other sister sent me this terrific snow-coated photo, with the message, “Dreaming of a white Christmas?”

Maybe?

Yay! You wrote about me!

Gawd, I thought you would never post anything. Being your blog stalker is just too boring anymore, Jamie. It doesn’t mean I’ll stop…
