UK: Day 7

Last night in London.

We have had such a wonderful time, and I am so sad.

(Matt just stood up suddenly and demanded, “What am I doing wearing pants? That’s stupid,” as he dropped his drawers. His boxers have little British Flags print and say “His Royal Heinie.” I have to say, I’m not so sad anymore because I can’t stop giggling. Matt said if I post about this, I have to explain it, so here goes. Every day when I come home from work, within the first minute I announce, “See ya in hell, pants!” and drop ‘em. He’s picked up the habit as well. So. Explained. It’s weird at my house.)

We just wrapped up two days of LOTS of walking, and I can’t believe we’re spending Friday night, our last night in London, sitting around watching cheesy British TV and drinking out of the giant £2.75 plastic bottle of Strongbow but that is exactly what we’re doing – just enjoying each other, looking at photos, talking about our time in London, occasionally doing a little straightening up and packing so we won’t have too hectic a morning tomorrow, headed out to catch our flight. A week felt luxurious but hurried at the same time – we already have a running list of stuff to do next time.

Like the British Museum Reading Room, which I am SO bummed about. I’m a big library nerd, and I really wanted to visit this place. When we arrived at the museum, we learned that the stupid China’s Terracotta Army display wasn’t just an exhibition that happened to be IN the Reading Room – it had taken over the Room to the point where not only could we not see it without paying a special exhibition fee, but even if we paid and entered, they boarded up the walls of the Room itself so it didn’t even look like the Reading Room I wanted to see. And read in. I really did – I wanted to read a book in the British Reading Room for just a few minutes. Told you. Library Nerd.

I added another round of photos to our London photoset – our visit to the Tate today, plus some other stuff we’ve done. Even though we catch our flight earlyish tomorrow, I’m sure I’ll do a few “last look” pics so there will likely be a final addition to that photoset once I get back to Florida.

We’ve been half joking for two days about “accidentally” missing our flight, and maybe never coming back. That’s probably the best you can wish from a vacation. But it did start dripping some chilly rain today, and I told Matt this is probably London’s way of making it so I’m not TOO sad to leave, so that I look forward to some of that Florida sunshine I love so much.

I’d love another week. But I’m starting to look forward to coming home, too.
