Sisterview #1
Carrie: “What are you doing right now?”
Me: “Oh, this happened and that happened and now I’m not doing much.”
Carrie: “Then why don’t you update cupcakepajamas?”
Me: “Fine. You give me five questions, and I’ll answer them.”
What are your Labor Day plans?
Right now, none, really. I have a friendly rugby match at FAU Saturday, this first of the fall season. And that’s it. I’m trying to save for a trip to London in November, so Matty and I are thinking maybe cheap beer by the pool Monday and that’s about it.
What is your new favorite outfit and accessory?
I’m on a dress-buying binge lately. I’m getting great deals and I love them all, but… there’s a tie for favorite. The first is what I wore as a bridesmaid in my best friend Shannon’s wedding – a black knee-length halter with a cinched waist, Laundry by Shelli Segal, yeah, I can be a label whore. So what? The other is a navy silk wrap dress with a pretty butterfly print, also most likely what I will be wearing to your wedding rehearsal in October, Miss Carrie.
My favorite accessory right now is this necklace in silver. I have to stop myself from wearing it every single day of my life.
Brauts or hot dogs?
Hot dogs. From Hot Dog Heaven, please. I’ll take you there next time you visit.
What’s the last book you read and give a review
That’s a little more “command” than “question,” but FINE.
Since it’s taking ages for my new library orders to come in, I’ve been reading magazines since No One Belongs Here More Than You. If you haven’t checked out that web site, by the way, you should. It’s rad.
The writing was quite good, and Miranda July is very funny in a cool, sneaky way. I read it in an airport and snorted out loud several times. But when I was reading it, I came to a realization, related to short stories and how I feel about them, but I’ve been having trouble articulating it.
I generally like short stories. I prefer them to have a solid plot, rather than that “slice of life” quality so popular these days. My problem with the latter is the voice every author of them seems to use, as they try to describe that slice of life how it would be told from inside the main character’s head. The voice is always so slow and simple, I definitely find them annoying and almost find them insulting. No one’s brain works like that. I understand that a story that jumped around like a real brain would be hell to read, but the relentlessly introspective “quiet, quirky” voice rings so untrue to me that it drives me nuts when I read it, because it’s all I can think about.
I like to get lost in my reading. Miranda July didn’t let me get lost.
And what sheets are currently on your bed?
Nick & Nora jersey sheets, printed with clouds. But I wish they were these.

Jamie, why have we not seen each other in forever. I miss the good times huge! It’s been so long but I know we have both been really busy. So, how’s the homeless shelter? What do you do there?
Life is not the same without you. I miss you!
Hugs and Kisses

Matt said something to the fact that you guys might be up here sometime again within the next several months. When are you guys hoping to be up here? I’m not working crazy hours anymore so i’ll actually be able to hang out. Isn’t that cool?
